This investigational cell therapy consists of autologous adipose-derived stromal cells (ADSCs) developed by the Ageless Regenerative Institute for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The therapy involves a multi-step process: harvesting adipose (fat) tissue from the patient via a local liposuction procedure, isolating the stromal cells from the tissue, and delivering these cells back to the same patient through intravenous injection. ADSCs are a type of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) that possess immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and potential neuroprotective properties. In patients with autism, the therapy is hypothesized to address underlying neuroinflammation and promote tissue repair through the secretion of various cytokines and growth factors. The clinical development of this therapy was focused on assessing the safety and potential behavioral improvements in children with ASD through open-label clinical trials.
