Bioheart's autologous adipose-derived stromal cell (ADSC) therapy is an investigational cell-based treatment designed for patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The procedure involves extracting adipose tissue from the patient via liposuction, processing it to isolate the stromal vascular fraction (SVF)—which contains a heterogeneous population of regenerative cells including mesenchymal stem cells—and re-administering these cells intravenously. The therapeutic intent is to leverage the anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties of the stromal cells to reduce lung inflammation and promote tissue repair through paracrine signaling. Although a multi-center clinical trial (NCT02041000) was planned by Bioheart in collaboration with Global Stem Cells Group, the study was ultimately withdrawn before enrollment began.
