Overview

**Autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular cells** are a heterogeneous cell population obtained from an individual’s own adipose (fat) tissue, typically through liposuction and subsequent collagenase digestion and centrifugation steps[1][6][4][2][3][7]. This cell population, often termed stromal vascular fraction (SVF), contains mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (MSCs), pericytes, pre-adipocytes, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, immune cells, and extracellular matrix fragments. The SVF is used as a form of autologous regenerative cell therapy, with cells injected back into the same patient to promote tissue repair or regeneration through paracrine effects, immunomodulation, and potentially direct differentiation into target tissue types[1][3][6][7]. Mechanistically, these cells contribute to tissue regeneration by secreting immunomodulatory and trophic factors, modulating inflammation, and possibly differentiating into cartilage, bone, tendon, or vascular cells. They have been tested primarily in orthopedics (knee and hip osteoarthritis, meniscal injury, chondromalacia), plastic and reconstructive surgery (skin, soft tissue regeneration), and autoimmune disorders such as systemic sclerosis[1][2][4][6][7].
