Overview

Autologous adipose-derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) is a cellular therapy being evaluated by Kaiser Clinic and Hospital for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The SVF is obtained from the patient's own adipose tissue using a 1210-nm diode laser-assisted selective photochemical stimulation technique, known as the One-STEP™ method, which allows for the isolation of cells through centrifugation without the need for enzymatic digestion (such as collagenase). This fraction is enriched with adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) and other regenerative components. In this specific clinical application, the isolated SVF is injected endoluminally into the duodenal submucosa. The therapeutic rationale involves the potential for these cells to modulate local inflammation and promote regenerative processes that may improve metabolic control and pancreatic function in patients with type 2 diabetes.
