Overview

This investigational regenerative medicine treatment consists of a combination of autologous adipose tissue and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Developed by the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria La Fe in Valencia, Spain, the therapy is specifically designed to treat moderate to severe vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) in patients who have not responded adequately to first-line topical corticosteroids. The treatment involves harvesting fat tissue (providing adipose-derived stem cells) and blood (providing PRP) from the patient, which are then processed and injected into the affected vulvar subunits. The goal is to restore tissue elasticity and structure through the regenerative action of stem cells and concentrated growth factors. The modality was evaluated in the Phase II LIQUENIA clinical trial (NCT03961126) led by Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez Ontalvilla.
