Autologous AFK (activated functional killer) cells are an investigational adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by Beijing Hospital. AFK cells are prepared by isolating, activating, and expanding autologous immune effector cells (primarily T cells and natural killer cells) from the patient's peripheral blood. This cell therapy is designed to enhance the host's anti-tumor immune response, particularly when combined with local tumor microwave ablation or thermal ablation. The combination therapy aims to induce immunogenic cell death, release tumor antigens, and synergistically promote systemic anti-tumor immunity to prevent recurrence and treat advanced malignancies, such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
