The autologous bacterial vaccine is a personalized immunotherapeutic agent developed by the Instituto de Investigación Marqués de Valdecilla (IDIVAL) for the treatment of chronic infections, specifically prosthetic joint infections (PJI). The vaccine is manufactured by isolating the specific bacterial strain(s) responsible for a patient's infection, culturing them, and then inactivating them (typically through heat or chemical means).
