This investigational cell therapy, developed by Van Hanh General Hospital in Vietnam, is a combination treatment for type 1 diabetes mellitus. It utilizes two sources of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)—autologous bone marrow-derived and allogeneic umbilical cord-derived—which are administered alongside activated platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The therapy is designed to leverage the immunomodulatory and regenerative capabilities of MSCs to halt the autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells and promote the restoration of pancreatic function. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1/2 clinical trials (NCT04061746).
