Overview

Autologous bone-marrow derived, interferon gamma (IFN-γ) stimulated mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) are a form of advanced cell therapy in which a patient's own bone marrow is harvested to isolate MSCs. These cells are then expanded ex vivo and exposed to interferon gamma prior to administration. The IFN-γ stimulation enhances the immunomodulatory properties of the MSCs by upregulating key anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive factors such as indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO-1), interleukin-10 (IL-10), programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). This preconditioning increases their ability to suppress T-cell proliferation and modulate immune responses. The therapy has been investigated primarily for immune-mediated diseases, neurodegenerative disorders like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), spinal cord injury, graft-versus-host disease prevention/treatment, and osteoarthritis[1][4][6][7]. Administration routes include intrathecal or direct lesion injection depending on indication.
