Overview

Autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) are an investigational cell therapy being developed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED), specifically in men with type 1 diabetes who are resistant to phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. The therapy involves harvesting mesenchymal stem cells from the patient's own bone marrow, expanding them in vitro, and then delivering them via intracavernous injection. The mechanism of action is regenerative, intended to repair and restore the function of endothelial, smooth muscle, and nerve cells within the penile cavernous tissue that have been damaged by chronic diabetic complications. This approach aims to provide a curative treatment for ED rather than the temporary symptomatic relief offered by oral medications.
