Overview

This autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell (BM-MSC) therapy is an investigational biologic developed by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences for the treatment of refractory rheumatoid arthritis. The therapy involves harvesting multipotent stromal cells from the patient's own bone marrow, expanding them in vitro under sterile conditions, and re-administering them as a single intravenous infusion. These cells possess potent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties, exerting their therapeutic effect by modulating T cell responses, increasing the population of regulatory T cells (Tregs), and suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The therapy is specifically targeted at patients who have shown inadequate responses to conventional non-biological disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
