Overview

Autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ABMSCs) are a cell-based therapeutic being developed by the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University for the treatment of ischemic stroke. These multipotent cells are harvested from the patient's own bone marrow, expanded in vitro, and then re-infused via either an Ommaya reservoir or the internal carotid artery. The therapeutic rationale is based on the cells' ability to migrate to ischemic lesions and promote recovery through the secretion of neurotrophic factors, modulation of neuroinflammation, and stimulation of endogenous neurogenesis and angiogenesis. This approach aims to repair functional disorders and improve motor outcomes in patients during the stable phase of stroke recovery.
