Autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) developed by TCA Cellular Therapy are an experimental cell therapy for the treatment of spinal cord injury (SCI). The therapeutic process involves harvesting a patient's own bone marrow, followed by the ex-vivo expansion of the mesenchymal stem cell population. These expanded cells are then administered back to the patient via a single intrathecal infusion. The mechanism of action is primarily paracrine; the MSCs are thought to migrate to the site of injury and secrete a variety of neurotrophic factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines. This activity aims to modulate the local immune response, reduce secondary injury, provide neuroprotection, and potentially support the regeneration of damaged neural tissue to improve neuromuscular control and sensory function.
