Overview

This investigational autologous cell therapy consists of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) developed by University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and focal chondral defects. The therapeutic process involves harvesting MSCs from a patient's iliac crest, followed by a 2-3 week expansion and culture period. The final product is administered as a single intra-articular injection of 50 million cells. Unlike symptomatic treatments, this biologic therapy is intended to leverage the regenerative and reparative properties of MSCs to potentially restore damaged cartilage and modify the underlying disease progression.
