This investigational cell therapy, developed by the University of Bergen, consists of autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) combined with biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) granules. The MSCs are harvested from the patient's posterior iliac crest, expanded ex vivo in a culture medium supplemented with human platelet lysate, and then seeded onto the BCP scaffold. The resulting graft is implanted subperiosteally to treat severe mandibular alveolar ridge atrophy (bone resorption), providing a regenerative alternative to traditional autologous bone grafting. The therapy aims to restore sufficient bone volume and quality to allow for the successful placement of dental implants in patients with significant bone loss.
