Overview

Autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSCs) are a multipotent cell therapy product isolated from a patient's own bone marrow, expanded ex vivo, and re-administered to the same patient. These cells exhibit significant immunomodulatory and regenerative properties, acting through the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-10 (IL-10) and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), as well as through direct cell-to-cell interactions. BM-MSCs are being investigated for a wide range of conditions, including autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease, metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes, and degenerative conditions like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and osteoarthritis. The therapy aims to restore immune balance, reduce chronic inflammation, and promote tissue repair without the need for a specific molecular target.
