Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This investigational cell therapy consists of autologous bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BMMNCs) developed by Chaitanya Hospital in Pune, India, for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). The therapy involves harvesting bone marrow from the patient, isolating the mononuclear cell fraction, and re-administering these cells back to the same patient via intrathecal and intramuscular injections at motor points of weak antigravity muscles. The treatment aims to facilitate muscle regeneration and stimulate the expression of dystrophin in dystrophic muscle tissue. This approach is typically followed by intensive rehabilitation therapy. The safety and efficacy of this protocol have been evaluated in a single-arm, single-center Phase 1/2 clinical trial (NCT01834066) involving patients aged 6 to 25 years.
