This investigational autologous cell therapy, developed by Hospital Universitario Dr. Jose E. Gonzalez at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, utilizes bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BM-MNCs) for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. The therapeutic process begins with the mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells using subcutaneous granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) for three consecutive days. Bone marrow is then harvested from the patient's posterior iliac crests under sedation, processed to isolate the mononuclear fraction (which includes hematopoietic stem cells), and delivered via a single intra-articular injection into the affected knee joint. The therapy is designed to harness the regenerative potential and anti-inflammatory signaling of the mononuclear cell population to improve joint function and reduce pain in patients with degenerative joint disease.
