Overview

Autologous bone marrow-derived total nucleated cells (BM-TNCs) represent a cell-based therapeutic approach involving the harvest of a patient's own bone marrow, isolation of the total nucleated cell fraction, and re-administration to the same patient. This fraction contains a heterogeneous population of cells, including hematopoietic stem cells (CD34+), mesenchymal progenitor cells, and various immune cells. The therapy is hypothesized to exert therapeutic effects through immunomodulation, reduction of chronic inflammation, secretion of neurotrophic factors, and enhancement of neuronal plasticity. It has been investigated for a wide range of conditions, particularly neurological disorders like cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorder, as well as cardiovascular and orthopedic conditions. The cells are often mobilized using granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) prior to harvest and typically administered via intrathecal or intravenous routes.
