Overview

Autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells (BM-MNCs) are an investigational cell therapy developed by Fuzhou General Hospital for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own bone marrow, isolating the mononuclear cell fraction (which includes hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and progenitor cells), and infusing them directly into the pancreas via intra-arterial pancreatic infusion. This approach aims to promote the regeneration of insulin-producing β-cells and improve the local microenvironment through the release of paracrine factors and cytokines. In clinical studies, this cell therapy has been evaluated both as a monotherapy and in combination with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HOT) to enhance cell survival and functional recovery.
