Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMNCs) and is being developed by the Fundacion para la Formacion e Investigacion Sanitarias de la Region de Murcia (FFIS) for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The therapy involves the extraction of a patient's own bone marrow cells, which are then processed and re-administered via intramuscular, intraspinal, or intrathecal routes. The cells are hypothesized to function as 'trophic factor pumps,' providing essential neurotrophic support to maintain the functionality of motor neurons and potentially modulating the local immune environment to slow the neurodegenerative process characteristic of ALS. Clinical evaluation has progressed to Phase II trials focusing on safety and efficacy in slowing disease progression.
