Overview

Autologous bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMCs) is an investigational cell therapy developed by Hebei Medical University for the treatment of diabetic lower limb ischemia. The therapy involves harvesting mononuclear cells from the patient's own bone marrow, typically via iliac crest aspiration, followed by isolation and intramuscular injection into the ischemic regions of the lower limb. This autologous approach is designed to promote therapeutic angiogenesis and improve regional perfusion. The mechanism of action involves the differentiation of transplanted cells into vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells, alongside the paracrine secretion of pro-angiogenic growth factors, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), which collectively stimulate vascular remodeling and tissue repair in the ischemic limb.
