Autologous bone marrow mononuclear cell (BMMNC) therapy is a cell-based regenerative treatment developed by the Vinmec Healthcare System for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own bone marrow (typically from the iliac crest), isolating the mononuclear cell fraction (which includes hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, and progenitor cells) via centrifugation, and administering the cells intrathecally. The proposed mechanism of action involves the immunomodulatory and paracrine effects of the transplanted cells, which may reduce neuroinflammation and promote neural repair or connectivity in the brain. Clinical evaluation has progressed through Phase 2 trials in Vietnam, showing improvements in social communication and behavioral symptoms.
