Overview

Autologous bone marrow stromal cells, specifically the formulation designated as medicament NC1, is an advanced cell therapy product developed by the Fundación Investigación Biomédica Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro-Majadahonda. The therapy consists of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) that are harvested from the patient's own bone marrow, expanded in vitro, and suspended in autologous plasma. It is administered via intrathecal injection into the subarachnoid space. The treatment is primarily investigated for chronic incomplete spinal cord injury (ASIA/Frankel grades B–D), where the MSCs are thought to exert therapeutic effects through the secretion of neurotrophic and neuroprotective factors. These paracrine effects aim to modulate the inflammatory microenvironment and promote neural repair and functional recovery.
