Overview

Autologous bone marrow total nucleated cells (BM-TNC) represent a heterogeneous population of cells—including hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, and various mature leucocytes—harvested directly from a patient's own bone marrow. Unlike purified or culture-expanded cell products, BM-TNC preparations retain the full complement of nucleated cells found in the buffy coat after centrifugation. The therapeutic rationale behind using the total nucleated cell fraction is based on the synergistic action of various cell types, which exert their effects primarily through paracrine signaling. These cells secrete a variety of cytokines and growth factors that promote immunomodulation, angiogenesis, and neuroprotection, facilitating the repair of damaged tissues. In clinical research, BM-TNCs are often administered via intrathecal, intravenous, or intramyocardial routes for conditions such as cerebral palsy, ischemic heart disease, and peripheral artery disease.
