Autologous burn-derived stem cells are progenitor cells harvested from the discarded or damaged skin tissue of burn patients. These cells are isolated from the viable portions of burn wounds and have been shown to retain stem cell characteristics, including the ability to differentiate and promote tissue repair. In clinical applications, these cells are seeded onto a dermal regeneration template, such as Integra® (a bilayer matrix of bovine collagen and glycosaminoglycan), to create a bioengineered skin substitute known as Integra-SC. The therapeutic objective is to enhance the wound healing response, improve the quality of the resulting scar, and reduce the overall formation of hypertrophic scars in patients with severe burn injuries by utilizing the patient's own regenerative cellular material.
