Autologous CD34-selected peripheral blood stem cells are a population of hematopoietic progenitor cells expressing the surface marker CD34, collected from a patient’s own (autologous) peripheral blood. These cells are used primarily in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) procedures. The process involves mobilizing the patient’s own stem cells into the bloodstream using agents such as cyclophosphamide and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), collecting them via leukapheresis, selecting for CD34+ expression using devices like Isolex 300 or CliniMACS, and then reinfusing them after high-dose chemotherapy or other conditioning regimens to reconstitute the immune system[1][2]. This approach is being evaluated for diseases such as multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune disorders where immune system reset is desired[2][3].
