Overview

Autologous cell-free fat extract (ACFE) is a bioactive liquid biologic derived from a patient's own adipose tissue through mechanical emulsification and centrifugation, followed by filtration to remove cellular components. Developed by researchers at the Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, ACFE is rich in endogenous growth factors (such as VEGF, HGF, and IGF-1) and cytokines that promote angiogenesis, reduce inflammation, and stimulate hair follicle regeneration. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata, where it is administered via local intradermal injection to rejuvenate the scalp microenvironment and activate dormant hair follicles. The extract works by delivering a concentrated cocktail of regenerative proteins that modulate signaling pathways like Wnt/beta-catenin to promote tissue repair and hair growth.
