Autologous chondrocyte-derived tissue-engineered cartilage is a cell-based therapeutic product developed by the Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital and Shanghai JiaoTong University School of Medicine. The therapy involves the ex vivo expansion and maturation of a patient's own chondrocytes into a functional, strength-enhanced cartilage tissue construct. This engineered graft is primarily utilized for the surgical correction of anatomical defects, such as nasal collapse in patients with postoperative cleft lip and palate nasal deformity. By using the patient's own biological material, the technology aims to provide durable structural support and aesthetic restoration while minimizing the risks of immunological rejection and donor site morbidity associated with traditional autologous cartilage grafts.
