Overview

Autologous cultured fibroblast therapy is an investigational cell-based regenerative treatment developed by the Royan Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology. The therapy is designed to treat facial contour deformities, including acne scars and wrinkles, by replenishing the skin's population of fibroblasts. The process involves harvesting a small punch biopsy from the patient's retro-auricular area, followed by the isolation and ex vivo expansion of dermal fibroblasts in a clean-room facility. These cultured cells are then reinjected intradermally into the target facial areas over multiple sessions. Once transplanted, the fibroblasts synthesize new Type I collagen and other extracellular matrix components, leading to structural remodeling and improvement of skin texture and volume. Clinical results from Phase II trials have shown sustained efficacy for up to 24 months with a favorable safety profile.
