Autologous cultured fibroblasts on amniotic membrane is an experimental cell therapy developed by the Royan Institute for the management of mitten hand deformity in patients with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), specifically the recessive dystrophic subtype (RDEB). The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own fibroblasts, culturing them, and seeding them onto a human amniotic membrane, which acts as a biological scaffold. This composite is then applied as a graft or dressing to the raw areas of the hand following surgical release of the "mitten" contractures (pseudosyndactyly). The goal is to enhance wound healing, reduce the risk of re-adhesion, and provide a biological cover that may compensate for the defective anchoring fibrils characteristic of the disease.
