Overview

Autologous dendritic cell-leukemic cell fusion vaccine is a personalized **therapeutic cancer vaccine** developed in a Boston Medical Center-led acute myeloid leukemia program. It is manufactured individually by generating dendritic cells from the patient's peripheral-blood mononuclear cells ex vivo and fusing them with the patient's own AML blasts. The resulting hybrid fusion cells present a broad repertoire of patient-specific leukemia-associated antigens together with dendritic-cell antigen-presentation and co-stimulatory functions, with the aim of inducing polyclonal leukemia-reactive T-cell immunity, eliminating residual AML cells, and reducing relapse after chemotherapy-induced remission. The Boston Medical Center phase I study evaluated dose and safety in AML patients in first remission.
