This is an autologous dendritic cell-based immunotherapy developed by the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen for the treatment of hormone-refractory prostate cancer. The vaccine is prepared by harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and pulsing them with a cocktail of four HLA-A*0201-restricted peptides derived from prostate-specific antigens: prostate stem cell antigen (PSCA), prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), and prostate-specific antigen (PSA). When administered intradermally, these mature, antigen-loaded dendritic cells present the peptides to the immune system to stimulate a T-cell-mediated response against prostate cancer cells expressing these markers.
