The autologous dendritic cell vaccine developed by the Grupo Español Multidisciplinar en Cáncer Digestivo (GEMCAD) is an individualized cancer immunotherapy biologic designed for the treatment of mismatch repair-proficient (MSS) metastatic colorectal cancer. The vaccine is produced by harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and loading them with tumor-associated antigens. Once administered via intradermal injection, these professional antigen-presenting cells activate the patient's immune system, specifically cytotoxic T cells, to recognize and eliminate colorectal cancer cells. In clinical development, notably the GEMCAD 1602 trial (NCT03152565), this vaccine is evaluated in combination with the anti-PD-L1 antibody avelumab to enhance anti-tumor efficacy in pre-treated patients.
