This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is a personalized cancer immunotherapy developed by the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCLA. The vaccine is produced by harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells (DCs) and loading them with antigens from the patient's own irradiated tumor cells, which are typically obtained during surgical resection. By using whole irradiated tumor cells, the vaccine presents a broad spectrum of patient-specific tumor-associated antigens to the immune system. These professional antigen-presenting cells are intended to prime and activate T-lymphocytes to recognize and destroy residual non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. The therapy was primarily investigated in a Phase I setting as an adjuvant treatment for patients with early-to-mid-stage (IB-IIIA) NSCLC to prevent disease recurrence.
