This autologous dendritic cell vaccine is an investigational immunotherapy developed by the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) for the treatment of high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The therapy involves the ex vivo loading of a patient's own dendritic cells with messenger RNA (mRNA) encoding the Wilms' tumor 1 (WT1) protein via electroporation. WT1 is a zinc-finger transcription factor that is highly overexpressed in various hematological malignancies and serves as a potent tumor-associated antigen. Upon re-administration to the patient, these dendritic cells present WT1-derived peptides on their surface, thereby stimulating a targeted T-cell-mediated immune response against leukemic cells. This approach is intended as an adjuvant treatment to eliminate minimal residual disease and prevent relapse in patients with high-risk myeloid disorders.
