Autologous differentiated myocytes is an experimental cell therapy being developed by the National Clinical Research Center for Orthopedics, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in China. The therapeutic process involves harvesting a patient's own cells, differentiating them into mature myocytes (muscle cells) in a laboratory setting, and subsequently transplanting them back into the patient via subcutaneous injection. This "myograft" approach is currently being evaluated in an early Phase 1 clinical trial for the treatment of muscle atrophy, particularly in patients suffering from muscle loss due to long-term bed rest. Additionally, the therapy is being explored for its potential impact on metabolic diseases, likely through the systemic effects of myokines or improved metabolic regulation provided by the transplanted muscle tissue.
