Overview

Autologous endometrial cells are a cell therapy product utilized in assisted reproductive technology (ART) to treat conditions such as refractory thin endometrium, Asherman's syndrome, and recurrent implantation failure. The therapy involves the harvesting of a patient's own endometrial tissue—typically via pipelle biopsy during the luteal phase—followed by the isolation, and in some protocols, the cryopreservation and culture of stromal and epithelial cells. These cells are subsequently reintroduced into the patient's uterine cavity, either as a coculture substrate for embryo development or via direct hysteroscopic injection into the endometrial basal layer, often suspended in autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The treatment aims to facilitate endometrial regeneration by enhancing cell proliferation and angiogenesis, restoring uterine histoarchitecture, and increasing the expression of receptivity genes such as HOXA10, thereby improving the chances of successful embryo implantation and clinical pregnancy.
