Overview

Autologous epithelial cell sheet is a regenerative cell therapy developed by CellSeed for the prevention of esophageal strictures following endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and for the treatment of congenital esophageal atresia. The product is created by harvesting a small sample of the patient's own oral mucosal tissue, which is then cultured on proprietary temperature-responsive culture surfaces (UpCell technology). This technology allows the cells to be detached as a single, intact sheet without the use of proteolytic enzymes like trypsin, preserving the extracellular matrix and cell-to-cell junctions. The resulting cell sheet is transplanted onto the esophageal ulcer site, where it acts as a biological dressing, promoting rapid epithelialization and reducing the inflammatory response that leads to fibrosis and stricture formation.
