Autologous Epstein-Barr virus-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (EBV-CTLs) are an adoptive cellular immunotherapy developed by **Northwestern University**. This therapy involves the ex vivo expansion of a patient's own T cells that have been specifically sensitized to recognize and eliminate cells infected with the **Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)**. It is primarily investigated for the treatment and prevention of EBV-induced **post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD)** in recipients of solid organ or hematopoietic stem cell transplants. By restoring EBV-specific immunity, these CTLs target EBV-positive B-cell proliferations, providing a targeted alternative to traditional chemotherapy or reduction of immunosuppression.
