Overview

Autologous expanded adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) is an investigational somatic cell therapy developed by the Fundación para la Investigación Biomédica del Hospital Universitario La Paz in Spain. The therapy involves harvesting a patient's own mesenchymal stem cells from adipose tissue via liposuction, followed by ex vivo expansion in a laboratory setting and subsequent endoscopic intraurethral (periurethral or intrasphincteric) injection. It is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of urinary incontinence following radical prostatectomy. The mechanism of action is thought to involve the regeneration and repair of the urethral sphincter and surrounding pelvic tissues through paracrine signaling, including the release of trophic, anti-inflammatory, and pro-angiogenic factors that promote tissue restoration and functional recovery.
