Overview

This autologous cell therapy, developed by Seoul National University Hospital, is designed for the treatment of decompensated liver cirrhosis. The procedure involves the administration of granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) to mobilize hematopoietic stem cells and other mononuclear cells from the bone marrow into the peripheral blood. These peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), characterized by markers such as CD34 and CD133, are collected via leukapheresis and subsequently transplanted back into the patient through ultrasound-guided percutaneous portal vein infusion. The therapy aims to promote liver regeneration and improve hepatic function in patients with advanced cirrhosis. Clinical results from a Phase 1 study indicated that the treatment is safe and tolerable, showing a trend toward improved liver function six months post-transplantation.
