Autologous GD2-specific CAR T-cell therapy is an investigational chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by the Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of South Australia. The treatment involves the genetic modification of a patient's own peripheral blood T cells to express a CAR targeting the GD2 ganglioside, an antigen frequently overexpressed in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), melanoma, and other neuroectodermal tumors. The therapy is designed to recognize and eliminate GD2-positive cancer cells. It is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation in the KARPOS trial for recurrent glioblastoma and has been studied in pediatric brain tumors (LEVI'S CATCH trial) and metastatic melanoma.
