Overview

Autologous hematopoietic stem cell infusion is a cellular therapy being investigated for the treatment of prolonged cytopenia, a common and potentially severe complication following Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. Developed by the Institute of Hematology & Blood Diseases Hospital in China, this intervention involves the intravenous administration of a patient's own hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) that were previously collected and cryopreserved. The goal of the therapy is to provide a "stem cell boost" to repopulate the bone marrow and restore multi-lineage hematopoiesis in patients whose blood counts have failed to recover after lymphodepleting chemotherapy and CAR-T cell infusion. This approach aims to mitigate the risks of infection and bleeding associated with persistent neutropenia and thrombocytopenia without the need for the intensive conditioning regimens typically required for full stem cell transplantation.
