This investigational autologous cell therapy is being developed by the Hospital Universitario Dr. Jose E. Gonzalez (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León) for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The therapeutic protocol involves the mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells from the patient's bone marrow using subcutaneous filgrastim, followed by the collection of CD34+ stem cells. These autologous cells are then administered intrathecally into the subarachnoid space. The therapy is hypothesized to stimulate neuroplasticity, modulate the neurodegenerative environment, and potentially halt the clinical progression of ALS. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 2/3 clinical trial (NCT01933321) to assess its safety and efficacy in modifying disease progression over a 12-month follow-up period.
