Overview

Autologous hematopoietic stem cells (non-cryopreserved) refer to a cell therapy product where a patient's own peripheral blood stem cells (PBSCs) or bone marrow are collected via apheresis and stored at refrigerated temperatures (typically +4°C to +6°C) for a short duration (72-120 hours) instead of being frozen with cryoprotectants like dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). This approach is primarily utilized in autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) for hematologic malignancies such as multiple myeloma. By avoiding cryopreservation, the procedure eliminates the need for specialized cryobanking infrastructure and reduces infusion-related toxicities associated with DMSO, such as nausea, vomiting, and cardiovascular symptoms, while maintaining similar engraftment kinetics and therapeutic efficacy compared to traditional cryopreserved grafts.
