This is a combination therapy involving two advanced cellular treatments for hematologic malignancies. The first component, autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (autologous HSCT or AHCT), uses the patient’s own blood-forming stem cells to restore bone marrow function after high-dose chemotherapy. The second component, chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, involves collecting the patient’s own T cells and genetically engineering them to express a synthetic receptor that targets specific antigens on cancer cells—most commonly CD19 in B-cell malignancies or BCMA in multiple myeloma. This combination may be used sequentially or as part of a treatment algorithm for relapsed/refractory blood cancers such as multiple myeloma and certain lymphomas[1][3][4]. Both modalities are highly personalized forms of immunotherapy and are typically reserved for patients with aggressive disease who have failed standard therapies.
