Overview

Autologous human exfoliated deciduous tooth dental pulp stem cells (SHED) are a population of mesenchymal-like stem cells derived from the dental pulp of naturally shed primary teeth. Developed by S-Quatre, a spin-off from Nagoya University, these cells are unique due to their neural crest origin, which provides them with a high capacity for neurogenic differentiation and the secretion of potent neurotrophic factors. The therapeutic mechanism is primarily paracrine, involving the release of a complex secretome containing brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF), and other growth factors that promote axonal regeneration, immunomodulation, and angiogenesis. S-Quatre utilizes a proprietary tooth banking system to store a patient's deciduous teeth for future autologous use in treating conditions such as spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and neurodegenerative diseases.
