Autologous Immunoregulatory Dendritic Cells are a cell therapy product developed by DiaVacs, Inc. for the treatment of new-onset type 1 diabetes. The therapy involves collecting a patient's own dendritic cells via leukapheresis, which are then engineered ex vivo. This engineering process includes incubating the cells with antisense DNA oligonucleotides specifically targeting the primary transcripts of CD40, CD80, and CD86. The goal of this modification is to modulate the immune system, thereby disrupting the autoimmune process responsible for the destruction of pancreatic beta cells in individuals with type 1 diabetes.
