Overview

This autologous cell therapy is being developed by Hospital Universitario Dr. Jose E. Gonzalez (Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León) for the treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The therapy involves harvesting bone marrow from the patient, isolating CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells from the mononuclear cell fraction, and administering them intrathecally into the cerebrospinal fluid. The treatment leverages the immunomodulatory properties and neuroplastic potential of these stem cells to address neurodevelopmental deficits and improve neurologic and social skills in pediatric patients. It is currently being evaluated in a Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT01740869) to assess its efficacy compared to observation.
